Cambados

A town built in granite

Discover its houses covered with shells as well as its balconies and galleries turned into stunning viewpoints

This is a town built in granite, a sanctuary for the nobility and the cradle of the Albariño white wine, one of the hallmarks of the province of Pontevedra.

The town of Cambados is the result of the union of three villages: Fefiñáns, having a distinctive noble character and with a rich history evidenced by its pazos (Galician manor houses); Cambados, boasting beautiful squares and cobbled streets; and San Tomé, and eminently fishing quarter.

The old fishing port used to be located here and today it serves as a dry dock for artisanal fishing boats

A stroll along the seaside promenade of Cambados will take you to the San Sadurniño Tower, on the A Figueira Islet. From there, you can see how the women harvest the shellfish that can be tasted at the dozens of traditional taverns scattered around the historical part of the town. One of the delicacies of the town are the scallops.

Unlike the centre, with more aristocratic constructions, the neighbourhood of San Tomé is characterised by irregular and narrow streets. The fihermen's houses are covered with shells and its balconies and galleries are converted into authentic viewpoints towards the coastal inlet Ría de Arousa. The old fishing port used to be located here and today it serves as a dry dock for artisanal fishing boats.
