Adventure group activities in As Rías Baixas

Enjoy kayaking, horseback riding, mountain biking or have fun in its multi-adventure parks

A perfect plan to have fun outdoors and play sports with your family or friends? The province of Pontevedra is the perfect destination. As Rías Baixas has a wide offer for all ages and tastes. Kayaking, new sporting disciplines, such as water biking, horse riding or multi-adventure parks with zip lines surrounded by leafy trees will allow you to live nature to the fullest. Now, you can choose the option that suits you best!

As Rías Baixas has always been closely linked to the sea. Therefore, it offers a wide range of activities to be shared with your children, whether in the sea or on the shore. There are adventure companies that organise sea kayaking trips in the coastal inlets Ría de Pontevedra and Ría de Vigo. Moreover, this type of activity is becoming increasingly popular in the Ría de Arousa, with trips to the idyllic Areoso Islet or to Cortegada Island.

If you want to make the most of your stay in the province, you can practice snorkelling with the help of professionals, or discover a new discipline, the water bike, which allows users to ride over the sea on a bicycle. You can use this new means of transport to get to the beaches of A Illa de Arousa Island in a more sustainable way than with your private car.

On two wheels

Both the coast and the inland part of the province of Pontevedra have beautiful paths to enjoy the local natural landscape, be it on foot or by bike. The Senda da Auga ("Water Path") in Redondela, with its impressive views over the Rande Bridge and the San Simón Island, is a must-do experience. The path of the Gafos River or the path of the Lérez River, both in the town of Pontevedra, are also good options which are fairly easy.

Mountain Bike
Paseo en bici

The bike path connecting the town of Baiona with A Guarda is perfect to exercise yourself with your family while admiring the cliffs on the southern coast. And if you take it seriously, then you can visit the region of O Salnés, which is one of the areas with the largest number of BTT trails in the province, or choose one of the BTT routes in the mountain range Serra do Cando.

Land adventure activities

And, if you are looking for new experiences on dry land, multi-adventure parks are your best option. The Multi-adventure Ecopark in the town of Marín offers a wide range of activities for all ages: horse riding, walking trails, zip-lines surrounded by trees and rock climbing. Moreover, there you can enjoy a beautiful natural environment with impressive views over the Ons Islands.

The Ecoparque Atalaia, located in the village of Cotobade, is and outdoor adventure and recreational centre perfect to have fun and practice sports while enjoying a beautiful landscape. This park is intended for groups of all ages. Paintball, river kayaking, rafting, horseback riding, hiking and orienteering games will make you fully enjoy this experience.

Rafting

In Silleda, you will find FervenzaAventura, a nature activity centre and farm school whose aim is that both adults and children learn to respect the products of the land and native animals while having fun. It has several facilities, such as a horse riding track, a climbing wall, a zip line, an archery area, an activity room, a vegetable garden, a greenhouse and stables where you can meet the animals of the farm, as well as a large sports area.

Sports and traditions

There are also activities with educational purposes that combine sports with the knowledge of the local history and traditions of the province. There are companies that organise group visits by kayak to see how mussels are reared in the Ría de Arousa, to visit a tide mill or to discover the extraordinary natural area of O Carreirón Park.

Moreover, in the inland part of the province, a good option for all family members is the descent of the Umia River by kayak, a 4-hour trip with hardly any difficulty, in which you can also enjoy a stunning river scenery.

Equestrian routes

An alternative way to explore nature in As Rías Baixas is on horseback. There are dozens of routes to discover some of the most stunning spots in the province and other less-frequented natural areas such as O Galiñeiro Hill in Vigo, the area surrounding the river beach of Ponte Caldelas, the hills of the town of Marín and the path of the Verdugo River in Pontevedra

In the southern part of As Rías Baixas, there are also interesting equestrian routes combining nature and the knowledge of the local heritage. You can leave from Mougás, in Oia, and visit the well-known pools Pozas de Mougás and Pozas de Loureza, or ride towards the petroglyphs and the hillfort settlement Castro da Cabeciña. In the region of Val Miñor, you will also find a horse-riding school that brings kids closer to the fascinating equestrian world.

You can also ride through the wonderful landscapes of Vilanova de Arousa, and discover the landscape with a local guide or climb the Lobeira Hill on a more challenging 3-hour tour.  As you can see, there are plenty of routes throughout the province of Pontevedra, also to explore the region of Deza.
