A Illa de Arousa

A town closely linked to the sea

You will find small stone houses and narrow alleys by the sea

A Illa de Arousa Island is a natural paradise and one of the most authentic fishing villages in the province of Pontevedra. This town, connected to the mainland by a 2 km long bridge, has an important history and boasts stunning landscapes, but is also popular for the character and nature of the locals.

A Illa de Arousa

A Illa de Arousa played an important role in the industrial development of the region as the first factory in Galicia was established in this town

Gamelas, botes, dornas, bateas, nasas, raños… are some of the names of the innumerable boats, fishing and shellfishing gears that we can find in A Illa de Arousa that are evidence of its close link with the sea. In the 19th century, there were up to seven salting and sardine fishing factories in the area. A Illa de Arousa played an important role in the industrial development of the region as the first factory in Galicia was established in this town.

The neighbourhood of Pedraserrada is eminently a fishing town. It boasts plenty of typical small stone seaside houses scattered around charming narrow streets. At low tide, you can walk on the rocks, where the locals moor their boats and traditional fishing gears.

A Illa de Arousa has 11 km of beaches and small coves, so it is one of the most attractive summer destinations in the province of Pontevedra.
