Pazo de Montesacro
R/ Narciso Pérez, 6936630 CambadosPontevedra
The Pazo is located on a hill with sea views -in the style of a vantage point- opposite a small square accessible by steps where Diego de Zarate y Murga, 1st Marquis of Montesacro through a decree by Felipe V, built the Baroque-style Pazo de Montesacro in the 18th century in the town of San Tomé. Of particular note is the elegant coat of arms of the Zárate and Murga families, featuring the Cross of Santiago and the crown of the Marquis, from which an arm brandishing a sword can be seen. In 1937, the wife of the 8th Marquis of Montesacro, Juana María Grisone, decided to sell the Pazo as she had been left a widow and had no children. The property was initially going to be purchased by the local businessman Manuel Otero, but she finally decided to transfer it to the Sisters of Charity so that they could extend the old people’s home that had hitherto been located at the Pazo de Torrado. It was refurbished in 1942 and continues to operate as an old people’s home, run by the Sisters of Charity.
