Fiestas del Monte
The archaeological site of Santa Trega was found in 1913. Excavations began a year later and thus the most visited tourist and cultural area of the region of Rías Baixas (and second most visited in Galicia) was created. A hundred years afterwards, it was decided that the discovery should be celebrated. At first it was small-scale, but soon it became very well-known and other cultural activities were added to the festivities.
It was declared a Festival of Tourist Interest in 2009. Different cultural and sporting events take place during the week attracting hundreds of visitors, and at night there are musical performances and open-air dances.
One of the main events of the festival is the folklore parade on Saturday, where thousands of people gather to see the regional costumes, and folklore and bagpipe bands fill the streets with music. There are also about twenty bands of fishermen marching to the sound of the drums. Bands, families and visitors all climb the mountain together on Sunday morning to celebrate the most important part of the festival, the centuries-old romería (a short pilgrimage to the church). They go around the mountain while playing the drums, which can be heard across the municipality.
