Brañas do Xestoso - Laguna sacra de Olives

This area is near the mountains of O Candán, where many of the small rivers that feed the Ulla and Umia rivers start. There is a lagoon nearby, Sacra de Olives, which adds to the beauty of what is the best representation of acid bogs in Galicia. This unique and peculiar ecosystem dates from the Neolithic period and has been part of the Natura 2000 network since 2001. It has small areas of bogland and heather, as well as some oak groves. There is also a small breeding area of the little bustard, a keystone species of the steppes.

Features
Native aquatic flora and fauna Fauna consists of the buzzard, falcon, eagle, robin, little bustard, skylark and viperine water snake, as well as different species of frogs and toads. Peat moss (Sphagnum) is also present, as well as several amphibians, reptiles and nesting birds like the Montagu's harrier (Circus pygargus) and the little bustard (Tetrax tetrax).
