A Guarda

Embraced by the Miño River and the Atlantic Ocean

Its typical seaside houses create a spectacular colourful seafront

Located by the Miño River and the Atlantic Ocean, most of the activity of the town revolves around its bustling port, the hustle and bustle of the boats and the neighbours.

The spirit of the sea can be felt anywhere in the town, as you walk along its narrow streets and its beautiful squares and in its typical seaside houses. It is located in a strategic position, combining coast, river and mountain landscapes that surround a town with abundant natural resources. A Guarda had the perfect conditions for the establishment of a dynamic population.

The most important attraction of the town is the Trega Hill, which serves as a perfect viewpoint over the Atlantic Ocean and the Miño River

Regarding architecture, the colourful seaside constructions that are part of the old town stand out. They are a group of multi-coloured low-rise houses that belong to the neighbourhood of A Mariña. Its buildings are among the oldest in the village.

The most important attraction of the town is the Trega Hill, which serves as a perfect viewpoint over the Atlantic Ocean and the Miño River. It offers stunning views over the ría, the Portuguese border and the town’s old quarter.

This town is also popular for its massive popular festivals, such as the pilgrimage to the Santa Trega Hill, the Festa do Monte; the Festa da Langosta, a festival paying tribute to its start dish, the lobster; and the Festa do Roscón de Xema, where you can taste the typical dessert of the town,  the egg-yolk ring cake.
