Convento de San Benito de Pereira
This convent is located on a hill near the historic town centre of Cuntis. A stone cross and a pair of pinnacles crown the front gate. The main building has a Neoclassical facade with a statue of the patron saint of the church, Saint Benedict.
Inside, there is an entrance area with the church, the sacristan’s lodge and a cruceiro (‘stone cross’) with a wayside shrine. The church contains several religious statues, among them Saint Benedict and his sister Saint Scholastica, as well as the popular Demo de Pereira (Galician for ‘Demon of Pereira’), which represents Saint Michael defeating Satan. The high altar is oriented towards the sunset and shares similarities with the colonnade of Bernini of the Basilica of St. Peter in the Vatican.
