Origin and history This popular festival began as a fair dedicated to promote one of the most famous meat products of the area. It was first celebrated on 15 August 1966 to attract tourists during the summer and to be at the same time as a cattle competition. There was an exhibition about typical products and free tastings of ham, provided by the young people of the town wearing traditional clothes. Itineraries and main events during its celebration The food festival starts at 11.00 with the people marching from the council offices of A Cañiza. The parade includes typical carriages and young people wearing regional clothing, some of them already carrying trays of ham. There are also cabezudos (big-headed figures) and members of the Confraternity of the Ham, as well as a folklore band. The parade walks through the streets of A Cañiza until reaching the park of Carballeira do Cacharado, where the tastings of many different types of ham take place.- Descripción del entorno: Urban
