Fiesta del Millo Corvo
MeiroBueu (San Martiño)36939 BueuPontevedra
The town of Meiro in Bueu celebrates the food festival of millo corvo (‘crow maize’) every spring. This black maize had not been used for decades, but the Cultural Association of Meiro brought it back in 1998. The recovery included the entire annual cycle, from the preparation of the soil to the harvest of the grain, as well the traditional milling practices. This festival is the final touch to the entire process, where many different products made with this type of maize are waiting to be tasted.

Features
Origin and history The first record of this grain in O Morrazo dates from 1600. Agriculture changed and developed quickly, and from 1700 onwards maize became the dominant cereal, comprising 90% of the overall total. Up to a few decades ago, millo corvo was grown in unproductive areas and acted as a protection barrier between crops due to its resilience. It was also used as animal feed, which was what caused its disappearance.- Descripción del entorno: Rural
