This area was classified as a Natural Site of General Protection Regime and a hunting-free zone. It is located between the peninsula of O Grove, the isthmus of A Lanzada and the southwest area of the ría (‘estuary’) of Arousa, and it extends from the estuary of the Umia River to Cambados.
The name of the region, O Salnés, comes from the salterns that were situated here. It is perhaps the most valuable wetland of Galicia and an important bird reserve where many species feed during their migrations.
