Torre de Miraflores
MirafloresPadriñán (San Xenxo)36960 SanxenxoPontevedra
Pazo de Miraflores is a traditional manor house with an L-shaped plan and a crenellated tower with pinnacles that is a floor higher than the rest of the building. The chimney also ends in pinnacles. Additionally, the building has coats of arms of the Sarmiento, Valladares and Salgado families dating from the mid-18th century. A gate crenellated with crosses is attached to the right side of the building and gives access to a yard where a simple stone staircase leads to the house and the garden.
Miraflores was founded by Diego Sarmiento de Valladares, a Grand Inquisitor in the 17th century who led the most impressive auto-da-fé organised in Madrid during the reign of Charles II. Hidalgo Jácome Sarmiento de Valladares, ‘Captain for the Defence against Enemies’, lived in the house in 1713, and in the late 18th century it was passed to the Pardo Bazán family from Cambados due to blood and legal ties. It was the summer residence of Figueroa y Somoza, Counts of Pardo Bazán, during the second half of the 19th century. Famous writer Emilia Pardo Bazán was born from this union in 1851. She spent her childhood summers there and had unforgettable memories of those years.
