Jardines del Pazo de A Saleta
The garden of Pazo de La Saleta is located in the heart of the region of O Salnés. The land was originally acquired by Margaret and Robert Gimson, a British couple who created this English-style garden in 1968 with the help of landscape architect Brenda Colvin, and filled it with species from all over the world. It contains a lot of plants from the Southern Hemisphere, particularly Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and the Far East, along with other native varieties.
The garden has one of the most important botanical private collections in Spain, according to the Spanish Committee of the Man and the Biosphere Programme from UNESCO. Part of the land was acquired by the Rodríguez Coladas family in 1996, who restored the manor house, the chapel and the dovecote, and continued the preservation and growth of the garden following the vision of the Grimsons.
The result is a unique botanical garden in Galicia that is part of the Route of the Camellia and can be visited by appointment. The owners offer guided tours with botanical information, and there is also the possibility of touring the garden with agricultural engineer Xesús Fernández, although it is longer and more expensive. Additionally, the facilities are available for events through the company Les Belles Maisons.
