Convento Vista Alegre
Vista Alegre, 1Vilagarcía (Santa Baia)Vilagarcía de ArousaPontevedra
This convent is located in the city centre. It stands next to a traditional Galician manor house (a pazo) of the same name. Together they form an ensemble of exceptional architectural value that has been declared Historic-Artistic Monument.
The pazo predates the convent: the former dates back to the 16th century, while the latter was built in the 17th century on the orders of Fernando de Andrade Soutomaior y Caamaño. A chapel dedicated to Saint Christopher once stood on the site, and then the convent was built there for the Augustinian Recollect nuns. It was connected by a large arch to the pazo, which used to have another tower, but it was partially destroyed and moved to the convent in the 17th century.
