The huge garden of Pazo de Oca is both an ornamental and vegetable garden that started as an 18th-century ideal of perfect harmony between practicality and beauty. This is why there is a strong focus on the cohabitation of decorative species of great botanical value (like a selection of camellias), commercial varieties (kiwis or vineyards), historic collections (apple trees) and vegetal patches. The garden is sometimes called the Northern Generalife or the Galician Versailles by those who have written about this monument of stone and landscape architecture. They compare it to those universally famous places to express the uniqueness and transcendence of the best preserved and most majestic pazo or traditional manor house in Galicia.
