This was the first bridge to connect both banks of the Lérez River in the city of Pontevedra. It was built by the Romans and became one of their main routes of communication, known as the 19th Roman Way. It is a medieval masonry bridge of eleven segmental arches, and it was rebuilt in the 12th century and restored and enlarged later on. It is also part of the Portuguese pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela.
