The Oitavén has its source in the O Suído mountain range, and is 34 km in length. Its channel drops from Terra de Montes, flowing via Fornelos de Montes until it reaches Soutomaior, where it becomes a tributary of the River Verdugo. This creates a similar situation to the Miño and the Sil. The Sil is the tributary, despite being the widest and most fast-flowing of the two. In this case, the Oitavén is wider than the Verdugo, but ends up surrendering its water and name to Comboa, where both merge.
