It is an old trail that Queen Elizabeth of Portugal used to take in the 12th century, following the way to Santiago de Compostela from the Portuguese cities of Braga and Porto. It went through A Franqueira, where she would rest in the old monastery until she resumed the journey to Pontevedra, heading towards Santiago de Compostela. Nowadays, we can relive history along its 15 kilometres, where we will see man-made marvels embellishing the trail, from Vide (As Neves) all the way to A Franqueira, such as roman and medieval bridges, mills, petos de ánimas (typical wayside shrines), cruceiros (stone crosses), churches, manor houses and even the oldest cork oak tree in Galicia. All of this, surrounded by a landscape of unparalleled beauty.
