This museum opened in 1756 and is situated to the north of the cathedral, in a former hospital for the poor and pilgrims from the 17th century. The building consists of three floors and it houses objects ranging from pottery to valuable archaeological pieces, such as a Roman sarcophagus and a Celtic helmet from the 3rd–2nd century BCE. It also has a large collection of sacred art which includes a 12-century statue of the crucifixion of Christ and a silver Eucharistic ark in the 17th-century monument to Holy Thursday. Also noteworthy is the pinacotheca with sambenitos, large pieces of fabric from the 17th century that are testimony to the penance from the Holy Office received by heretics reconciling with the Church and which are unique in Spain.
