Don Severino Álvarez Otero, a priest who served in American countries, is credited with the desire to build this temple in honor of Our Lady of Mercy in the A Gándara neighborhood of the parish of Salcidos.
It was inaugurated in 1918, on the feast day of Our Lady of Mercy.
