The Pazo de Mugartegui lies in the Plaza de A Pedreira, which got that name as a consequence of the stone carving activities carried out at the city's quarries. It was built during the 17th and 18th centuries as a clear example of urban baroque architecture. The most outstanding elements of the Pazo are the seven arches supported on pillars and columns, and the central crown on the front, where there is a wonderful heraldic coat of arms in a semi-circular arch on which a stone sundial rests. The baroque coat of arms features the arms of the Figueroa, Araújo, Miranda and Quirós families. The Pazo forms part of a set of great beauty, which includes the square itself and the huge arch to the Casa de la Sierra, through which you can reach Calle César Boente. It is currently being refurbished as a room for exhibitions, conferences and concerts. It is also home to the Regulatory Board for the Rías Baixas Designation of Origin Wine, and is also the place where civil weddings are carried out by the Pontevedra Council
