This island is located in the centre of the estuary of Pontevedra and has an area of 28 hectares and a height of 80 metres in the hill of San Facundo. It is oval and pyramidal in shape and completely covered with trees, particularly eucalypts. It includes a lighthouse, two beaches (Area da Illa and A Dreidá) and three small docks.
Tambo does not belong to any particular parish, although it is part of the municipality of Poio. Security is managed by the Navy School of Marín.
