The castle of San Sebastián was built with a significant lack of means and in a hurry (fearing a possible Anglo-Portuguese attack), which led to the walls not being made with enough consistency. The exterior was not fortified with pits, covered roads or ravelins… When the English invaded the region in 1719, the castle’s garrison abandoned the place and sought refuge in the castillo del Castro
