The Modernist architecture of Mondariz-Balneario began in the 20th century and it consists of a series of buildings and gardens. The spa of Mondariz is a magical place that has only improved since it opened in 1873. It is composed of the Grand Hotel-Sanatorium (1909-1915), the La Baranda building (1910) and the building above the fountain of Gándara (1908-1909), designed by Antonio Palacios. It was built in granite, which was originally polished. It has huge granite columns with vegetal motifs in the capitals, topped by glass windows and a dome.
