This tower was built in the Suebi period (952) by cattlemen from Iria. Its ruins are the only remains of a fortress ordered by bishop Sisnando in the 10th century. It was part of a defensive system that alerted the region of Arousa to the presence of Viking ships via fires. It was one of the many towers that suffered the consequences of the Irmandiño revolts (1466-1469) in which the people rebelled against Pedro Madruga and the rest of the nobles. It was very difficult to destroy the tower due to its structure and location, but after five days of being shot by cannons, it fell and was never rebuilt. The ruins deteriorated with the passage of time and have been reduced to a couple of walls that guard the headland where they are located. In the vicinity is the emblematic Chapel of A Lanzada, famous for the legends that associate it with fertility.
