It was opened by the then Prince Felipe coinciding with the Fifth Centenary of Pinzón’s arrival to Baiona. The sculpture is made of granite and is formed by five groups that represent Galicia, America, the emigration and the coming back. It is placed around a big sphere that symbolizes the world. This last part has in its interior samples of soil brought from the 22 Latin American countries and deposited by its ambassadors on the day of the opening. The large monument is located on the wall of the Constable’s half-moon, at the foot of the Monterreal walled enclosure. It was made by the artist Magín Picallo
