Parque Miguel Hernández
Vilagarcía de Arousa Pontevedra
Spain

The Miguel Hernández Park Garden owes its name to the Mediterranean, Spanish poet, and constitutes the largest green and leisure area in town. There are several distinct zones within the park: The forest is a space where lush species such as oaks, alders, willows and chestnuts invite you to stroll and read. The labyrinth is a place where you can enjoy the burble of the pond while the little ones enjoy in the playground. In Plaza de las Palmeras you will see eight impressive palm trees brought from Elche and a sculpture, created by the Vilagarcía-born artist Emilio Mosquera, dedicated to Miguel Hernández. In the English-style grassland area you can lay down and sunbathe, surrounded by twenty slender cypress pines. The camellia garden is a must, as the flower, native to Japan, turned into an emblem in the Rías Baixas, where it has been traditionally raised. This is evidenced by the centennial camellia trees that were retrieved from Dr Moreira Casal’s run-down home garden and by the younger ones, planted so that anyone can enjoy them while walking through narrow dirt paths. Lastly, the elliptical area and its nearly symmetrical gardens, seasonal flowers, bushes and seven-pipes fountain made of stone offer visitors a wonderful sight where the good taste of nineteenth-century Romanticism becomes evident. Such an ideal place to let our imagination fly and to make a wish under the moonlight.
