Located in the Co-cathedral of Santa María, it is popularly credited for the victory over the Napoleonic troops that invaded Vigo in 1809, merit for which it was named patron saint of the city, The figure also receives the name of “Cristo da Sal”, as that was what the merchant that rescued it from the see, near the Cíes Islands, transported. It had been thrown to the sea to prevent the English pirates from stealing it. It’s a a figure made by the sculptor Sebastián Ucete and donated by Marcó del Pont, a Catalan industrial that lived in Vigo in the second half of the 18th century.
