Are there any must-visit attractions in As Rías Baixas?

The majestic fortresses of Soutomaior and Sobroso, placed in stunning natural landscapes, have been the setting of many battles throughout history and also boast a great diversity of plants. 

Soutomaior Castle, in the municipality of the same name, and Sobroso Castle, in the village of Mondariz, have been restored to their old glory by the Provincial Council of Pontevedra thus becoming major tourist attractions in the province and worth-visiting places.

Is it possible to go on a trip across the rías?

Yes, you can enjoy their richness by taking any of the ferries owned by several shipping companies, and discover the local cuisine by tasting their delicacies on board. You will also learn about the history of San Simón Island, located in the Ría de Vigo and where the Battle of Rande took place, or of San Simón Island, in the Ría de Pontevedra, which was inhabited by monks, plundered by pirates and served as a military base until 2022

How can I get to the islands of the Galician Atlantic Islands Maritime-Terrestrial National Park?

You must be aware that there are some prerequisites for visiting the islands, and the daily number of visitors is restricted and varies depending on the time of year.

To visit Cíes Islands and A Illa de Ons during high season (Easter and from 15 May to 15 September), visitors must first obtain a permit issued by the Regional Government of Galicia (Xunta de Galicia) on its website and then purchase a ticket from the shipping company.

During low season, it is possible to visit Cíes Islands or A Illa de Ons, as well as the islands of Sálvora or Cortegada, in groups accompanied by a guide.

What is Turismo Rías Baixas?

Turismo Rías Baixas is the umbrella brand of Rías Baixas destination, located in the province of Pontevedra. Its goal is to promote the resources, attractions and infrastructures of the province by means of a wide range of promotional activities aimed at attracting tourists and carrying out actions to boost and improve the image of this destination.

Its headquarters are located in the historic building Palacete das Mendoza, in the town of Pontevedra.

What are As Rías Baixas?

As Rías Baixas are located in southern Galicia (northwestern Spain) and have been shaped by coastal erosion, forming cliffs and rías (coastal inlets) that have become one of the most outstanding areas in Galicia.

These rías are the longest and cover the entire coastline of the province of Pontevedra and part of the Atlantic coast of the province of A Coruña. In the province of Pontevedra, you can find the the Ría de Vigo, the Ría de Aldán, the Ría de Pontevedra and the Ría de Arousa.
