The artist José Otero Abeledo, better known as Laxeiro (Lalín 1908-Vigo 1996) has a permanent exhibition on show at the Laxeiro Foundation, with a total of 62 works belonging to the Vigo Council and loaned to the Laxeiro Foundation, which was created in 1999 to disseminate and research this artist’s work. Laxeiro is considered the leading exponent of the Renovators of Galician avant-garde movement, the protagonists of an art renovation that overcame the reigning regionalism of the time and placed the Galician aesthetic identity in harmony with European trends. The foundation was declared to be of Cultural Interest and of Galician interest. Located at the Casa de las Artes, a rationalist building from 1939
