This house-museum is dedicated to one of the most relevant figures in Galician art from the 20th and 21st centuries: Diego de Giráldez. The building has five floors and an area of more than 1000 m2 in the historic town centre.
His private collection is comprised of more than 300 paintings covering more than 50 years of his work. They range from his first paintings at 6 years old in his home town of A Cañiza, which he drew with charcoal from the fireplace, to his most well-known style, NAS Realism (it stands for Naturalism, Abstraction and Surrealism).
At first most of his works were of uniquely painted still-life, landscapes and figures in which black, white and green are the most common colours. Later on, he combined the realism of portraits with naturalism and surrealism for the sizes and incorporated objects and abstract backgrounds with dark shades and lights at the angles to make the central figures stand out.
He is considered a unique portrayer of nature, capable of displaying the realism of everyday life in a simple way, avoiding profusion and adornment and resorting to minimal visual elements.
