It is one of Michel Pacewicz’s most emblematic works and representations of the 19th century eclecticism in the city. It is commonly known as the hotel El Moderno because it was used as a hotel for a long time. The author's Parisian eclecticism is masterfully mixed in the building with the work of local stonemasons. It has two facades, connected by a rounded chamfer topped with a dome and a pavilion. On the first floor, the openings topped with semicircular arches and the stonework balcony stand out. The Policarpo Sanz facade is symmetrical. It has two lateral bodies topped with a neo-baroque pediment with an adorned oculus. On the second and third floor, these bodies are highlighted using giant Corinthian columns. The Carral Street facade is similar but arranged in an asymmetrical manner. Regarding the decoration, the pieces that stand out are the floral garlands that frame the lintels of the openings in the upper floors and the different corbels and fake keystones of the arches around the building. The building was renovated several times. In one of them, done by Desiderio Pernas, the roof system was modified and the use of colours of the dome that tops the chamfer was lost. Today it houses bank and company offices
