The height of the thermal baths boom in the late 19th century facilitated the building of the park of Caldas de Reis and the garden situated in the former oak grove. The botanical park-garden is classified as a Picturesque Site and a Historic Garden. Today its collection consists of a selection of living plants, identified and registered according to scientific methods and criteria, which are used for educational and cultural purposes. The park, located on the banks of the Umia River, is one of the most beautiful parts of the province. It contains many species of trees, including some exotic ones, along with different types of camellias. Additionally, it has been declared a Site of Cultural Interest by the Xunta de Galicia (Galicia’s regional government), and several of the species are included in the Galician Catalogue of Singular Trees.
