The collection of this museum on the hilltop of Santa Trega consists of objects from several excavations carried out in the Gallaecian–Roman settlement of Santa Trega, found in 1913. They date from the Paleolithic, Mesolithic, Neolithic, late Bronze Age and the castro and Roman periods.
Both the settlement and this museum designed by architect Antonio Palacios have been declared Historic-Artistic Monuments, in 1931 and 1962 respectively. The area has been declared a Site of Cultural Interest.
