A commemorative exhibition took place in the Municipal Museum of Lalín in 1998 to mark the 15th anniversary of the Viravolta puppet company. That was the beginning of the museum, owned by the Council of Lalín and managed by the Viravolta Association. It opened in 2001 with a collection of more than 300 objects and documentary materials from the puppet company.
Viravolta signed a new agreement with the Council of Lalín in September 2014, and the location of the museum changed to Pazo de Liñares. It opened its doors again in December 2014, with two exhibition rooms, a library/documentation centre and a programme of activities.
