San Juan de Poio is a medieval Benedictine monastery, today occupied by a community of Mercedarian monks. The museum is composed of four exhibition rooms, three for permanent exhibitions and one for temporary exhibitions.
The first room during the tour is the former refectory (dining hall), which displays a collection of mosaics and sculptures both in stone and plaster. The following room is dedicated to ‘the interpretation of the Mercedarian Order’, which has objects related to this religious order. The third room is for temporary exhibitions. Lastly, there is a room with a collection of paintings and miniature books, which was formerly the stables of the monastery.
