The Museum of Pontevedra consists of six buildings located in different parts of the historic city centre. They contain collections of sculptures, paintings, pottery, archaeological artefacts and other works of art that take visitors on a journey through the history of the province. This 18th-century building first opened on 10 August 1929 and it was the first one to be established. Its exhibition rooms display archaeological objects, pre-Roman and Roman jewellery, gold and silver items, and paintings. Two of the rooms devoted to archaeology contain prehistoric remains of several necklaces and other Roman finds from the archaeological site of Caldas de Reis, as well as Spanish, Italian and Flemish paintings from between the 15th and 18th centuries.
