This sanctuary has a turbulent history. It is named after a Roman soldier who became a martyr during the reigns of emperors Diocletian and Maximian around 306 CE. Tradition says that his wife Arquelaida and their three young children suffered the same fate after refusing to renounce their Christian faith.
Saint Campio now rests in the Catacomb of Callixtus in Rome. He is known as the protector of soldiers and many young adults visit him to ask for his favour. He is also believed to have curative powers, so others decide to try their luck hoping to find a cure for their ills.
