This necropolis is very important because of its historical interest as it recalls the stay of the British Navy in the port of the city at the start of the 20th century. It is the only English graveyard in the province of Pontevedra.
The British Naval Cemetery, its official name, was built in 1911 to house the remains of the dead English soldiers because they couldn’t be buried in the catholic sacramental as they were protestants. There also rest the remains of some renowned people like the former British consul in Vigo, Alexander Linsay, and his wife, who died in the 1970s. Those are two of the last burials that took place in this cemetery.
