Located on the central Policarpo Sanz Street, the García Barbón Theatre is one of Vigo's most iconic buildings and one of the masterpieces of the Galician architect Antonio Palacios. Inaugurated in 1927, the theatre was built following the fire that destroyed the former Rosalía de Castro Theatre, with the aim of restoring to the city a major venue dedicated to culture and the performing arts.

Its imposing granite façade, inspired by the great European theatres of the early 20th century, makes it a landmark of Galician monumental architecture. Its elegant curved forms, rich sculptural decoration featuring allegories of the arts, and the distinctive winged horses crowning the main façade—one of the building's most recognisable features—are particularly noteworthy.

Today, the García Barbón Theatre is one of Vigo's leading cultural venues. It hosts a diverse programme of theatre performances, concerts, dance productions, musicals, film screenings, and other cultural events. The building also houses an auditorium, exhibition halls, and other spaces dedicated to artistic activities, establishing itself as a meeting place for artists and audiences of all ages.

Visiting the García Barbón Theatre means discovering an essential part of Vigo's history and identity. Its prime location in the heart of the city, just a short walk from the port and the historic quarter, makes it an essential stop for anyone wishing to explore Vigo's architectural heritage and vibrant cultural life.
