A sea of activities

Diving, kayaking, flyboarding... The Rías Baixas are a powerhouse in maritime specialities.

The orography of the three estuaries of Pontevedra makes them the perfect setting for the practice of an endless number of nautical activities for all ages, tastes and times of the year. Whether you like peace and quiet or you are passionate about risk, you will find alternatives and companies with a long history to make any dream linked to the sea and its depths come true. With a total of 24 coastal municipalities, 398 kilometres of coastline, some thirty marinas and four large rivers such as the Miño, the Lérez, the Verdugo and the Ulla, the province is a powerhouse for the practice of water sports.

The aim is to promote quality tourism, which allows visitors to get to know the coast from a different point of view. In addition, the good navigability conditions in As Rías Baixas facilitate maritime incursions almost all year round. If sailing is your thing, you should know that Sanxenxo, Portonovo and Combarro are the three jewels in the crown of the Pontevedra estuary, which find their Arousa counterpoint in Pedras Negras, A Toxa and Vilanova de Arousa.

For diving, three of the most specialised localities are Vigo, Bueu and Sanxenxo, with a wide range of options for intensive courses or day trips to discover the enormous wealth of our privileged waters.

In the south, the Vigo estuary is ideal for sailing, and Patos beach is one of Galicia's surfing meccas, with bodyboard, longboard and SUP activities on offer. If you want to get behind the controls of a jet ski, you'll find many options in the ports of Baiona, Arousa and Sanxenxo, with a wide range of boats that don't require a licence. Kayaking is another good alternative to sail the waters of Vigo or O Morrazo with the Atlantic Islands National Park as a backdrop.

And if you like thrills, flyboarding and water ski ing courses are also available in most coastal towns. Another of the best ways to have fun in the middle of nature is to organise a weekend of hydrospeed, taking on the rapids of the Miño or Ulla rivers. This is considered the most modern and exciting white water sport.
