Diego Rodríguez, neighbour of the parish of Parada de Achas, died on 10 November 1753. He had previously made a will witnessed by José de Novoa y Sampayo, who was the royal scribe of King Fernando VI and lived in San Miguel de Cequeliños. The will said that if they built a chapel in the parish, he would grant the benefits provided by that land every year and a part of a hill in Anduriña that belonged to him.
The beautiful chapel was maintained for the next few years thanks to the harvests of fruits, wine, rye and other cereals from that land. If the harvest was not productive, they still had the oaks planted on the hills.
The chapel was completed in 1756, but the statue of the Virgin of Peñafrancia had already been brought on 8 August 1752 from Lisbon by seafarers who had survived the storms at sea thanks to the Virgin. Every year since then, several religious events and festivals in her honour are celebrated in September.
