Lobster Festival
A weekend with a taste of the sea
A Guarda celebrates the XXIX edition of the Festa da Langosta on the 5th, 6th and 7th of July.
Seafood and fish are the protagonists of the gastronomy of As Rías Baixas. In each locality the seafood dresses up the dishes, sought after by locals and especially by those who visit the province of Pontevedra. Although these delicacies are famous in local recipes throughout the year, the multitude of gastronomic festivals that take place in the warmer months make them especially relevant. The Festa da Langosta e da cociña mariñeira is one of them; it awaits you in A Guarda on the 5th, 6th and 7th of July 2019.
The event, which always takes place on the first weekend of July and has been declared of Tourist Interest in Galicia, is much more than a culinary tribute to lobster and other seafood. Year after year, its poster integrates culture, tradition, musical performances, children's shows and guided tours. During these three days, A Guarda becomes the epicentre of the most typical traditions of As Rías Baixas and a tribute to the seafaring life.
Of course, the restaurants of this town in Pontevedra are another focal point of the celebration. On the table, many are the guests at a party whose protagonist is the acclaimed crustacean from A Guarda: barnacles, monkfish, prawns, mussels, clams, razor clams, scallops, scallops, prawns or octopus stand out in numerous preparations such as pies, paellas, skewers or omelettes.
The abundance of lobster on the coasts of A Guarda prompted the organisation of this festival, which today is attended by dozens of diners. The menu includes wines from As Rías Baixas and traditional desserts, such as roscón de yema or filloas.
To see and to walk
In the course of the Portuguese Coastal Route, in addition to the good food, this fishing village stands out for its views and tourist resources: Indian houses, fortresses, inland environments and river landscapes add attraction to a municipality known especially for the castreño settlement of Santa Trega, one of the largest archaeological sites in the province of Pontevedra.
