The Tower of Cálago is the only remaining part of the former Monastery of San Cipriano de Cálogo, founded by San Fructuoso in the 8th century.
The square shaped tower doesn’t have any ornamentation. It was built to defend the Galician coast against attacks by invading ships.
Finally, the monastery was destroyed by Norman attacks during the 9th and 10th centuries
