A village sculpted in granite

Discover its houses covered with shells, balconies and galleries converted into viewpoints.

We are talking about a town sculpted in granite, a sanctuary for the nobility and cradle of the prized Albariño wine , one of the hallmarks of the province of Pontevedra.

Cambados was born from the fusion of three historic villages: Fefiñáns, with a marked noble and historic character, where the manor houses come to life; Cambados, with its beautiful squares and cobbled streets; and Santo Tomé, with an eminently seafaring character.

This is where the old fishing port was located, today it is a refuge for small-scale fishing boats.

A walk along the promenade of Cambados will take you to the tower of San Sadurniño, on the islet of A Figueira. From this area it is common to see the shellfish gatherers harvesting the clams that can then be tasted in the dozens of traditional taverns that you will find in the historic centre. Its neighbours are also masters at cooking scallops.

Unlike the centre, with its more noble buildings, the presence of irregular and narrow streets clearly indicates the entrance to the Santo Tomé neighbourhood, which shows the typical seafaring houses: houses covered with shells, balconies and galleries converted into veritable viewpoints overlooking the Arousa estuary. This is where the old fishing port was located, which today is a refuge for small-scale fishing boats.
