Embraced by the Minho and the Atlantic

Its typically seafaring buildings form a spectacular colourful façade.

Embraced by the river Miño and the Atlantic Ocean, its centre of life and leisure revolves around the port, between the bustle of the boats and the locals and visitors who see them off when they go out to sea.

The seafaring influence can be felt in every corner of the town, strolling through its narrow cobbled streets and beautiful squares, and in its typically seafaring buildings. Its strategic location fuses coastal, river and mountain landscapes that surround the town with abundant natural resources. A Guarda provided the perfect conditions for the establishment of a dynamic population.

The jewel in the region's crown is Mount Trega, which emerges between the Atlantic Ocean and the river Minho as a perfect vantage point.

Architecturally, the colourful maritime façade, which forms part of its historic centre and is one of the most recognisable features of As Rías Baixas, stands out. It is a group of low, multi-coloured houses in the A Mariña neighbourhood, whose buildings are among the oldest in the town.

The jewel in the crown of the region is Mount Trega, which emerges between the Atlantic Ocean and the river Miño as a perfect vantage point. It offers breathtaking views over the estuary, the Portuguese border and the historic centre of Guarda.

In keeping with the tradition of the seafaring villages of Galicia, A Guarda is also known for its many popular festivals, among which the Festa do Monte, the Fiesta de la Langosta - its dish par excellence - and the Fiesta del Roscón de Yema, one of the typical desserts of the gastronomy of the south of Pontevedra, stand out.
