Discovering As Rías Baixas through illustrations
As Rías Baixas have inspired representatives of all art forms throughout history. The exhibition "Ilustrando Rías Baixas", which is displayed at the Deputación de Pontevedra's headquarters in Vigo until 19 August, includes the works of art by seven contemporary illustrators who have expressed their vision of different places, people and activities of the province of Pontevedra in a notebook or on the screen. Clara Cerviño, Kiko Dasilva, Lara Lars, Andrea Jano, Eduardo Baamonde, Carlos Castro and Nuvi y Éxfico capture moments using different styles and techniques, and are an example of the talent of illustrators from the province of Pontevedra and other parts of Galicia.
This exhibition covers many art techniques– watercolour, urban sketching, Indian ink or acrylic, among others. Most of the depicted places can be recognised at first sight, such as the squares of O Berbés (city of Vigo) and Fefiñáns (town of Cambados), the A Toxa Bridge (town of O Grove), the lighthouses located along the coastline or Rande Bridge. Some artists draw poetic scenes or include real elements into imaginary spaces, creating new worlds. Moreover, activities such as fishing are also portrayed and some pieces assert the strength of women in different scenarios.
Although here you can see a sample of the exhibition "Ilustrando Rías Baixas", we recommend you to visit it and explore Vigo. It will be held at the Deputación de Pontevedra's headquarters in Vigo (Eduardo Chao Street) and opening hours will be from 10 am to 8 pm during the months of June and July, and from 10 am to 2 pm in August.
