Trivia Every year on 1 March, the town commemorates the arrival of La Pinta to the port of Baiona with news of the discovery of America. More events have been added to the festival over the years, so it has now been moved to the weekend following the official date.Origin and history The festival has been held since 1996 and consists of a re-enactment of the arrival of La Pinta to Baiona like it happened five centuries ago. The town turns into a medieval village with the same scenery, traditions and experiences it had then, such as a market and a range of traders, comedians and diverse figures that transport visitors back to the Middle Ages. There are records kept in the historical archive of Baiona of commemorative events already happening on 6 April 1892, during the 4th centenary of the arrival.
Itineraries and main events during its celebration The medieval festival is celebrated in the old town. It offers handcrafted products that one could find in the 15th century. There are musicians, troubadours, jugglers and artisans on the streets and a re-enactment of Martín Alonso Pinzón and his crew telling the news of the discovery to the mayor of Baiona on 1 March 1493. The festival ends with an official ceremony with the participation of representatives from the councils of Palos de la Frontera, as well as Santa Fe in Granada and Pornic in France, both sister cities of Baiona.
