Mirador natural "Burato do Inferno"
It is located in the southern part of the island, and is a dangerous crevice dropping sharply to the sea. Access is via boat at the bottom part. Legend and superstition abound in this area! According to the islanders, "on stormy days, you can hear the screams and wails of condemned souls..." These legends most likely derive from the fear it inspired in those who went close - hearing the cries of the guillemots which at one time nested inside it. A cross on the cliff, commemorating a marine guard who fell to his death after slipping on the treacherous edge, reminds us of its danger.
