Bosque de secuoyas de Poio
Monte de A EscusaPoioPontevedra
Also known as Columbus Forest. It is very recent, as it originated in 1992 to commemorate the 500th anniversary of Christopher Columbus's arrival in America. The American government, then headed by George H.W. Bush, gifted the people of Spain 500 redwood trees (Secuoia sempervirens) through bill H.J. Res.529 as a symbol of brotherhood between the Old and the New World. The result is over two hectares of sequoias, which create a beautiful natural area with fantastic views over the estuary of Pontevedra.
